Bariatric surgery is an effective strategy to treat obesity. Hypoglycaemia after bariatric surgery is an increasingly recognized adverse event associated, particulary after gastric bypass surgery. Potential health consequences to the patients, particularly the impact on quality of life, demand the adoption of effective strategies to diagnose and treat hypoglycaemia. This document aims to gather and share current knowledge regarding management and treatment of hypoglycaemia after bariatric surgery.

A cirurgia bariátrica constitui uma estratégia eficaz de tratamento da obesidade. A hipoglicemia após cirurgia bariátrica é uma complicação progressivamente mais reconhecida nos últimos anos, em particular após a cirurgia de bypass gástrico. As potenciais implicações de saúde para os doentes submetidos a cirurgia bariátrica, e em particular o atingimento na qualidade de vida que lhe está associado, exigem a adopção de estratégias eficazes para o diagnóstico e tratamento deste problema. Este documento visa reunir e divulgar o conhecimento atual relativamente à abordagem e tratamento da hipoglicemia após cirurgia bariátrica.
